Response Letter from Senator

Thankyou for contacting me regarding the reauthorization of the Violence AgainstWomen Act of 2011.  I appreciatehearing your thoughts on the subject and the opportunity to respond.

TheViolence Against WomenReauthorization Act of 2011 (VAWA) is currently pending in the SenateJudiciary Committee.  I support this important bill that will protect women across the country from thethreat of domestic abuse.  VAWA was originally signed into law in 1994 and has since been credited withsubstantially reducing the levels of violence committed against women and children by their spouses andpartners. The U.S. Department of Justice estimates that violence against women has decreased 21 percentsince the law was passed.  As such, I will keep your thoughts in mind as we continue to address thisimportant issue.
